The Philippine Association of Entomologists, Inc. (PAE)
is a professional organization of entomologists, insect-hobbyists, individuals and institutions bound with a common object of interest -- insects.

PREAMBLE

"Realizing the need for an organization among entomologists to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and a vehicle of communication, to encourage, promote, and enhance research, instruction , and extension in entomology; to foster cooperation among members; to promote understanding and recognition of entomological science among the various governmental, business and professional circles in the Philippines and abroad, and to form an effective group that will act for the general well-being of the profession, we hereby form this Association and promulgate this Constitution."

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

The Association was formally organized with the ratification of its constitution and by-laws on August 12, 1968. It was established in the Department of Entomology, of the University of the Philippines College of Agriculture (UPCA).

MEMBERSHIP

The Association’s membership is composed of the following:

FULL members—Holders of BS degree with major in Entomology, or holders of MS or PhD with at least a minor in Entomology, or those who have no academic degrees as specified, but have rendered meritorious services in the profession;

ASSOCIATE member—Any person who does not possess any one of the qualifications for full membership, but is interested in the research and development issues in Entomology;

STUDENT member—Any major student in Entomology and enrolled in any accredited university or college. His/her application must be endorsed by two full members of the Association, and his status as a student must be certified by the major professor or appropriate department chairman of the educational institution to which he/she belongs. Membership of a student in the Association expires upon his graduation.

PATRON—Any person who makes payment to the Association of such amount as maybe prescribed in the By-Laws;

SUSTAINING ASSOCIATES—Any firm or institution that gives an annual contribution to the Association of such amount as prescribed in the By-Laws;

LIFE members—This maybe conferred on any member who has: (a) made outstanding contribution to Entomology and to the society and (b) been an active member for the last five years and must have paid the appropriate life membership fee. All Uichanco Memorial and PAE Pest Management awardees and Past Presidents of PAE become life members automatically.

The above members are elected to membership at any meeting of the PAE Executive Board.

Membership Fee. New members pay an initial fee of Philippine Peso PhP 320. Annual dues are: Full menbers, PhP 200; Associate members, PhP200; Student members ,PhP 50; Patrons, PhP 1,000; Life members, PhP 2,500; Sustaining Associates, PhP 5,000.

WHO ARE ELIGIBLE FOR ELECTIVE POSITIONS?

Only Full Members are eligible for elective positions.

OFFICERS

The following are the officers of the Association:

President, Immediate Past President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Business Manager, Auditor, Public Relations Officer (PRO), three (3) Regional Representatives—one each for Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, and four (4) Board Members, which include the current chairman of the Department of Entomology, UPLB-CA.

The officers and the elective members of the Executive Board hold their respective offices for one year.

MEETINGS OF THE PAE EXECUTIVE BOARD

The Executive Board meets once a month. The Regional representatives,

although not regular members of the Board, may be invited to attend the meetings of the Executive Board. An annual general meeting of the Association is normally held during the first day of the annual conference of the Pest Management Council of the Philippines in which PAE is a member.

OFFICIAL PUBLICATIONS

journal.gif (68882 bytes)The Association publishes the scientific journal "Philippine Entomologist" which is circulated locally and internationally, and the PAE bulletin called "Kulisap." Members are enjoined to submit articles for these publications.

Subscriptions: For institutional subscribers and non-members, the rates are PhP 600 (domestic) and US$ 50 (foreign) per year, payable in advance. Communications regarding subscriptions should be addressed to The Circulation Manager. Remittances should be made in the name of the Association. Advertisements are accepted for publication in this journal. Correspondence regarding rates should be addressed to the Business Manager.

Members, including LIFE must pay Php 200.00 per year for subscription to the Philippine Entomologist.

The "Kulisap" is free for all active members of the Association.

ACTIVITIES OF THE ASSOCIATION

PAE holds an annual scientific conference which coincides with the annual convention of the Pest Management Council of the Philippines (PMCP). It also conducts training programs, symposia, seminars and other fora on insect pest biology, ecology, management and other related topics for pest control operators, health workers, hobbyists, entrepreneurs, and the general public. Its individual members are also involved in instruction, research, extension, business and industry-related activities.

The Association is also active in forging linkages with government and private sector for collaborative programs.
