Therapeutic Benefits of Hot Springs

At a constant temperature of 120 degrees Fahrenheit or 48 degrees Celsius the water flowing from Mount Makiling falls under the category of “hot spring”. A hot spring is defined as hot water, vapor of gases that is issued from the ground with a temperature in excess of 25 degrees C (77 degrees F) and contains prescribed amount of designated substances. Unlike some areas in Laguna where cold or warm springs are abundant, Pansol is lucky to have an unlimited supply of pleasantly smelling sulfuric hot springs.

In Japan, bathing in hot springs is hailed as the favorite

activity for relaxation,  enjoyed mostly by the rich.

Onsen, Japanese term for hot springs, are still major attractions for vacationers. However, here in Philippines you need not be rich to be able to experience an invigorating hot spring dip. There are many public resorts where you can spend an entire day swimming in the hot springs.

Onsen or hot spring in Japan

Its popularity is attributed to the relaxing effect and the beneficial properties of the water.  Many people attest to the physical replenishment they get

after a hot dip. Some doctors even prescribe hot spring treat-ment to cure certain conditions.

  • Chronic rheumatism

  • Neuralgia

  • Chronic diseases of the stomach,

  • intestines, liver and gallbladder

  • Hypertension

  • Hemi-plegia

  • Glucosuria & gout

It is also used for treating external injuries and for post-operative treatment and rehabilitation.

  • Soothes tired muscles and aching joints

  • Cures skin tissue problems

  • Calcium in the water eases swollen limbs

  • Iodine-ion lowers blood pressure

  • Sulfur strengthens the joints

  • Increases the flexibility of the veins

At Rockpoint, we give guests the option to experience these wonderful benefits either in the outdoor pools or in the private bathrooms of their guest rooms equipped with large corner tubs or Jacuzzis.

TESTIMONIAL:

I was in Manila to visit my sic mother. During this trip to the Philippines, I suffered from swollen limbs. The doctor said it's very common for people to have "manas" especially when you travel by plane for long hours. So my in-laws suggested we go swimming in hot springs.

I was a bit skeptical at first but that night we used your outdoor Jacuzzi. The hot spring water was so nice and relaxing! it was only for about 45 minutes but by next morning, I noticed the swelling on my legs and arms had subsided. Too bad we couldn't stay longer because I was leaving in 2 days. Thank goodness for your springs!

Massage:  Feeling Good, Looking Good

All of us know how good a massage feels, but few of us know how good it actually is for both our mind and body.  Massage is one of the oldest, most instinctive and natural healing art and science that we know.  Its practice dates back to the time of Ancient Egyptian, Greek, Roman and Oriental cultures.

Its benefits have been recognized on its own and incorporated into traditional and modern healing systems such as Ayurveda, reflexology and Physiotherapy.  Our own body recognizes the benefits of massage.  Watch how you instinctively rub your elbow when you accidentally hit it on the edge of a table.

Our muscles are the most obvious beneficiaries of a good massage. Massage increases circulation in the muscle tissue, allowing for increased delivery of nutrients and removal of waste material.  There is increased lubrication between muscle fibers and a strengthening of the connective tissues, increasing flexibility.  Massage also relaxes stiff, tightened muscles and relieves spasms and pain caused by nerves trapped in tight muscles.  It stimulates soft, flaccid muscles, delaying their wasting from disuse or atrophy.

The physical benefits of massage extends to our other body systems as well:

  • STIMULATES flow in the lymphatic system, boosting our immune function

  • IMPROVES circulation in other body systems, like the digestive system,  allowing for better functioning

  • RELIEVES the heart by aiding circulation to other parts of the bod

  • DECREASES the body’s stress response by inhibiting stimulation of the sympathetic nervous system

  • INCREASES skin flexibility and elasticity by improving circulation and hydration (less wrinkles!)

  • DECREASES pain by releasing pain-reducing neurochemicals that inhibit pain signals to the brain.

Psychologically, massage and the touch that comes with it gives us a sense of being cared for and loved.  It promotes a relaxed state of mental alertness, and encourages calm thinking and creativity.  Studies have already shown that individuals perform better in mental tasks after a therapeutic massage, and that underdeveloped newborns catch up faster with normal newborn babies in growth and development with touch therapy.

Now that you know all this, don’t you think you owe it to yourself to give massage a try if you haven’t already?
