  Los Baños FARM-C's "PASYAL LAWA" Project  . . . One active and very promising fisherfolk organization in the countryside is the Los Baños FARM-C. Aside from projects that redound to the benefit of their members, they launched last month a project that benefits not only fisherfolks, but ordinary people alike. Students are also benefited. The project is called "Pasyal Lawa", basically a tourism program where interested individuals can take a short tour of Laguna de Bay within the confines of Los Baños. FARM-C members underwent training on first aid basics, navigation safety, as well as tourism promotion. Participants wear life vests on-board. . . .  more

Philippine Carabao Center to Produce First Cloned Carabao . . . SCIENTISTS at the Philippine Carabao Center (PCC) are now into massive cloning of embryos of a superior breed of carabao following the unsuccessful transfer of the first batch of the cloned carabao embryos early this year. The PCC’s target is to come up with the first genetically superior buffaloes using the cloning technology this year, but scientists said the statistically most probable, yet they least expected, happened, as the first batch of the clones experienced early embryonic death. . . . . . . more

TRANSCO AWARDS $10M CONTRACT TO CHINESE . . . THE National Transmission Corporation (TransCo) has awarded more than $10 million contract to Chinese firm Zhejiang Electric Transmission and Transformation Engineering Corporation to build the 230-kV Transmission Line Project in Laguna. Zhejiang won the competitive public bidding for the said steel pole, double-circuit, 18.2 kilometer-long transmission line, the last component of the Batangas Transmission Reinforcement Project (BTRP).  . . . . . more 

UP Studes for Smoke-Free Campus . . .  Devotion to freedom being a hallmark of University of the Philippines students, another new and radical event is taking place: they are pushing for a smoke-free campus.
